About Our Staff

Avanthi Bandaranaike (Avi)Mom’s Morning Out (MMO) teacher joined WACCP in 2014. Avi started as a substitute teacher in all of our classes. Last year she had a regular role in the  Mom’s Morning Out (MMO) and 2’s classes. She went on maternity leave last January and is now back at work in the MMO class. Avi completed her ECE units in 2010 at the Contra Costa Community College and is currently working on obtaining her AA degree.  She also holds an AMI Montessori Diploma. Avi previously worked at Kinder Care in Walnut Creek as the 2's Class Teacher. Avi is a Mother of three children, a 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy and a new born. She is originally from Sri Lanka. Avi loves to work with children. Her sweet nature and bright smile bring a calming affect to the classroom.

Lee Cuban - Kindergarten Readiness (4’s)/Full Day Teacher joined our staff in mid-October, 2015. Lee earned her BS degree in Health Education from San Francisco State University. One of Lee's first full time jobs out of college was running the front desk and child care departments at Club Sport Valley Vista in Walnut Creek.  She then went on to be assistant manager at the Claremont Resort in Berkeley, working closely with the childcare department. She also enjoyed organizing the membership's annual Spring Egg Hunt for the little children.  This is when she realized her love for working with young children. Lee was a police dispatcher for the city of Concord and most recently worked in the home warranty industry for many years. Lee is currently completing here ECE units at Diablo Valley College. Lee is originally from Hawaii and she loves spending time with her two nieces, who are 2 and 6 years old. Lee is very excited to join the staff at WACCP and we are very happy to have her. She is very nurturing and her adoration for the children really shows.

Wendy Eidle – Kindergarten Readiness (4’s) Aide/Playground Supervisor joined our staff this year.

Wendy completed her Multiple Subject Elementary Teaching Credential in 2009, after working as the Youth Director of Manhattan Country Club, where she worked for eight years. Some of her responsibilities at the club included implementing the S.H.A.R.P. Preschool curriculum program as well as managing the childcare facilities, summer camps and extra curricular youth activities. Previously she received her B.A. in Human Development from Long Beach State University and worked in an after school program as well as substitute teaching. For the last 6 years Wendy has enjoyed being able to stay at home with her 2 children, ages 6 and 4, one who graduated from WACCP and one who still currently attends the JK class. She also occasionally substitutes at the Seven Hills School in Walnut Creek. Wendy is very excited to be a part of our teaching staff as she has really enjoyed being part of our preschool family for several years already. Wendy brings a professional and energetic dynamic to the classroom. We are very happy to have her join our team.

Streeta Farrell - Director joined our staff in the spring of 2002 as a teacher in the 4’s class.  That summer she coordinated the preschool camp program.  After another year of teaching the 4 year old’s, she transitioned to teaching the 3 year old’s and assisted in the office.  She continued to run the summer camp program for several years and taught in the Junior Kindergarten classroom for a short time. In 2006, Streeta transitioned into the office full time as the Administrative Assistant, taking over as Director in 2007.  Streeta completed her ECE Site Supervisor certification at DVC in 2007.  She is also a graduate of Cal State Hayward, with a degree in Recreation Administration. She has 2 sons, a Junior and Senior, both whom are graduates of WACCP.  She loves working in the early childhood field and is very dedicated to WACCP.


Carrie Goong – Kindergarten Readiness (4’s)/Full Day Teacher, Curriculum Director joined our staff in 2007. She has worked in our 2’s, 3’s and 4’s classes. This is her first year taking the responsibility of Curriculum Director. Carrie completed her Early Childhood Education at DVC in 2004.  She completed the Administrative ECE classes at DVC in 2015 . She  received her A.A. in Liberal Arts in 2008. She previously worked for a year and a half as a teacher for the 2 year old’s at the Child Time preschool in Martinez.  A few years ago, Carrie was a recipient of the first ever “Sunshine Awards”. This award is given out by the Mt. Diablo Unified School District to individuals who show exemplarily dedication to their profession by going above and beyond the “call of duty” at their school and in their community. We appreciate all of her hard work and dedication to our program! Carrie brings a consistently warm and soothing personality to WACCP.

Nicole Harlin – Teacher Aide/Floater – joined our staff in 2015. Nicole studied and played softball at Eastern Illinois University. She earned her degree in Communication Studies and is completing here Early Childhood Education courses at DVC. Nicole is a local from Northern California. She has always enjoyed interacting with children and couldn’t wait to become a mommy. She has 2 children, both of whom currently attend WACCP. She is very excited to be able to teach the wonderful children at our school. Nicole is energetic, cheerful and really connects with the little ones.

Malena Herrera – Introductory (2’s) teacher/Developmental (3’s) teacher joined our teaching staff  in 2015. Malena earned her BA in Social Studies from Peru’, where she grew up. She then went on to complete her ECE units from San Francisco City College and her ECE Administrative units at Diablo Valley College.

Malena worked for 8 years at My Spanish Village Preschool in Walnut Creek and as a Spanish tutor. She has some Montessori school experience as well. She and her husband love to volunteer with the Worldwide Marriage Encounter. They have 2 children, both of whom graduated from Cal Berkeley. Malena teaches an after school Spanish class here at WACCP. She is creative, nurturing and loves being with children.

David Martinez Developmental (3’s) teacher joined our staff in 2014. He spent the first year and a ½ as a teacher’s aide to all the classes. He moved into the 3’s class in 2015. He also works in our Lunch Bunch Program, M-F. David earned his ECE units at Diablo Valley College in 2014. He previously worked at the Valley Verde after School Program and currently works at Foothill Elementary After School Program. We love having a male figure around the school. The children love interacting with David, and bond with him instantly. David has an infectious smile and laugh and is a joy to have at our school.

Kathleen Roghair – Junior Kindergarten (JK/Lunch Bunch teacher joined our staff this year. She came to us from My School Preschool right up the street. She taught there for 13 years until they unfortunately had  to close their school last year. Kathleen has taken on this new position with a great attitude to learn as she works and a willingness to be flexible. Kathleen earned her ECE credentials in New York in 1987. She is a cheerful mom of 2 girls, 16 and 18. We are as excited as she is to have her be a part of our team.

Paulina Torres – Assistant Director/Developmental (3’s) teacher joined WACCP in 2009 as a teachers’ aid to the 3 and 4 year old classes as well as Lunch Bunch. After completing her ECE units at DVC in 2011, she became one of our primary 3’s and 4’s teachers. She also helped coordinate the Gross Motor program. She completed her Site Supervisory classes at DVC in 2014 and she is continuing her education to obtain her AA degree in Early Childhood Education. She also has an Accounting certificate. Last year she took on the role of Staffing Coordinator/Administrative Assistant. This year she earned the title of Assistant Director. This brings a higher level of organization to our team. and a broader range of communication among staff and parents. Paulina also has experience working with special needs children and this really shines through in her patient and calming approach to dealing with children and staff. To top it off, this year she accepted an Assistant Director position at The Creek After School Program at WCI. Paulina is a mom to a freshman.

Chrissy Wanser - Kindergarten Readiness (4’s) teacher joined WACCP in 2011 as a teacher’s aid to our 2’s and 3’s classes as well as Lunch Bunch teacher. She then worked in our 3’s class as the lead teacher and as the Full Day Program Teacher. She completed her ECE units at DVC in 2012 and her Site Supervisory courses at DVC in 2016. This year Chrissy is teaching in the 4’s class, both in the morning and afternoon.. Chrissy has many years of experience as an In Home - Day Care provider. She is a “natural” teacher and nurturer. She is always ready to jump in and get the job done! Her attention to detail is wonderful. She is very creative and artistic and this brings a nice flair to our Summer Camp Program.  She is a busy mom of 2 boys, a junior in high school and a first year college student. We love having her as part of our teaching team.

Lisa Whittington – Junior Kindergarten (JK) teacher joined WACCP in 2011 as a teacher aid in the 3's class. During the 2012-2013 school year, Lisa worked as a substitute teacher in all of our classrooms, learning a lot about each program. Now she is teaching in our Junior Kindergarten program alongside Mrs. Roghair. Prior to 2011, Lisa worked at Walnut Acres Elementary as a noon time supervisor, working with the Kindergarten thru fifth graders. Lisa also taught cooking classes there for five years as an after school enrichment class. Baking and cooking are a passion of hers. She operated a small baking business for four years. Lisa has three sons that are 24, 21 and 18 years old. Her youngest attended WACCP when they first moved into the Walnut Creek area. Lisa is very good natured and has a gentle disposition.
